Discover Magazine's Dr. Phil Plait chose to highlight our most recent image of two interacting galaxies, NGC 5426. His article explains the development of this galactic dance through their mutual gravitational influence. These galaxies are low in the sky from our latitude in Arizona. It is therefore difficult to acquire good images of this pair for most amatuer astronomers in the U.S. However, from our well-positioned perch on Mount Lemmon we are able to capture these galaxies in what is perhaps their first promenade.
